6. Managing Certificates
After issuing digital certificates through nChain Certify, effective management of these certificates is crucial for maintaining their integrity, validity, and the overall trust in your certification process. This section explores how to view, revoke, and export certificate data efficiently.
Viewing Issued Certificates
Access the Certificates Dashboard: Navigate to the "Project and Certificates" section on your nChain Certify dashboard. Here, you will find a list of all certification campaigns, along with project folders in which campaigns can be organized.
Certificate Details: Clicking on a certificate campaign provides further details, including the recipients' name and email, the number of recipients, the location, the date of issuance and information on whether email notifications have been sent. You can also see the certificate ID and Transaction ID for blockchain verification. From here, you can also view the actual certificate as presented to the recipient.
Actions: Sending email
When clicking on a certification campaign, admins access the list of recipients, from where they can trigger notification emails to recipients. This allows you to send a first notification email or resend the notification.
Simply click on the email icon next to the recipient’s name to trigger an email notification.
Actions: Revoking Certificates
There may be instances where it becomes necessary to revoke a certificate, such as in cases of error, fraudulent activity, or when the criteria for certification are no longer met.
Select Certification campaign: From the “Project and Certificates” dashboard, locate the certificate you wish to revoke.
Revoke Certificate: Each certificate entry will have a "Revoke" option. This is represented by the trash icon next to each recipient’s name. Clicking this will prompt you for confirmation and allow you to enter a reason for revocation (optional but recommended for record-keeping).
Notification: Consider informing the recipient of the revocation, including the reason, especially if the certificate has been publicly shared or linked to professional profiles. We plan to add automatic notification for revocation in a future release.
Blockchain Update: The revocation action will update the blockchain transaction in which the certificate is referenced, ensuring that any attempts to verify the certificate will reflect its revoked status.
The transaction output of that transaction will be spent, representing the revocation of the certificate.
Organizing Certificate Campaigns in folders
From the main “Projects and Certificates” dashboard, you can create folders in which to store your certificate campaigns.
Click on “New” in the top right-hand corner, then “Create a Project”.
Give the Project a name and click “Create project”.
Managing digital certificates through nChain Certify provides a robust framework for ensuring the integrity and credibility of your certification process. By effectively viewing, revoking, and exporting certificate data, you maintain high standards of certification management and uphold the trust of your recipients and stakeholders. As you continue to issue and manage certificates, remember the importance of clear communication and transparency, especially in situations involving revocation or changes to certificate statuses. The next sections will delve deeper into enhancing the recipient experience and leveraging advanced features for a comprehensive certification ecosystem.
